HABIT 4 - THINK WIN-WIN

Have you, yes you, ever wondered what it would be like to be nice/friendly/pleasingly appealing? Well, ever since I learned about “Habit Four; Win Win”, I’ve started looking deeper into this Habit. Habit Four is about seeing if two people in such as an argument, a disagreement, or at least a small fight, and the “Win Win” part means to at least let them figure out if they can have one of them, and the other, both get what they want, most likely drawing a conclusion to this battle. Nevertheless, they both win, and that is just one of many, numerous ways to explain this. My apologies if I didn’t make much sense. -Hunter R. Dermody

HABIT 3 - PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST

In Mrs. Rosen's class we learned about Habit 3 which means put first things first. It also means to do things that are in important before things that are not.To work on this habit you can make goals, make schedules, and be organized .  For example, do homework before playing video games or on your phone. I think this habit really helped us in this class because at the beginning of the year we really struggled in class to have everyone do homework and turn it in but know we are doing much better.

Rock Climbing Field Trip

Have you ever been rock climbing in Bishop? Well, we just went there a month ago. We got to climb and actually get to choose between four rock climbing spots at the Happy Boulders! But, you would have to to switch off in the middle to eat lunch and do a little map of Bishop. I would say most of the students enjoyed rock climbing the most. However, I bet there were some that were a little scared. We were really thirsty and there was very scarce water but no one really cared. We were just in shock how people all the way from Cleveland would come here to boulder climb! Out of a zero to a ten, I would give our rock climbing field trip a ten!!

How to Be Proactive
By: Jaedyn

To be Proactive means you are in charge of you. To be proactive you can be responsible, take initiative, take charge of your actions, don’t blame others for what you did and do the right thing when nobody's watching. Some of the things our class has been doing to be proactive is; write about proactive things we have done and choose leaders of the week. We have made a class mission statement.

Mrs. Rosen’s Class Mission Statement
We, the intelligent and hard-working students in Mrs. Rosen’s class, will live and learn by the 7 Habits. We will be kind and respectful to others and to ourselves. We will strive to be successful each day by having good attendance, listening, and following directions. Finally, we will participate in class by problem solving, being creative, never giving up, and by being open to other people’s ideas.

Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017 our class went out to watch the solar eclipse. On that day it was my birthday. I was turning 10 years old. And it was a day to remember. If you’re wondering what a solar eclipse is, let me tell you. A solar eclipse is when the moon covers the sun. So the moon orbits the earth and we, the earth, orbit the sun. So when the moon orbits earth it goes around and around. During a solar eclipse, the moon is directly in front of the sun. Our class watched the solar eclipse and it’s a once in a lifetime event to see. If you watched the solar eclipse you’re very lucky! I know I am, It was the coolest thing I have EVER seen. If you watched it very closely then you can see the solar flares behind the moon. I did, it was so cool! The whole process took about 45 minutes. That’s 45 minutes off of haha. But when it was the darkest it was about 10:15. It was only about 2 minutes when it was the darkest but it was cool.                                                                By:Cadence Nott

BACK TO SCHOOL

Welcome Back to School!

I can't believe the summer is over! I know I say this every year, but time sure goes by fast. One of the wonderful parts of being a teacher is the building excitement of a new school year. I love meeting new students and families, creating an inviting classroom, and planning the first week's activities.

This summer I have been reading and researching how teachers are using the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People  by Stephen Covey to teach 21st century leadership and life skills to students. I have read many success stories from schools around the country and want to incorporate the 7 Habits into our classroom.

What you will see at home:

  • Leadership Notebook - set goals, track progress, celebrate success
  • Assignments and Projects to be completed with family members
  • 7 Habits Language - I encourage families to talk with their child using the 7 Habits language
  • Leadership Days - families will be invited to the classroom to participate in activities led by students
  • Positive Rewards/Praise & Consequences based on the 7 Habits

I am so excited to begin this journey with students and am confident that students will improve their academic achievement, build self-confidence, and gain essential social and life skills.

Words of Wisdom

Some Person in the class…

Random words of wisdom from a fifth grader,

Dare to be different because the world is full of ordinary. Be colorful, because no one can judge you but yourself. Do amazing things, you may change the whole world or change the world for one person. Be a pineapple, stand tall with a crown but be sweet on the inside. These random words look like letters put together on paper, (or screen in your case) but word are more powerful than people think. You are amazing and because of that you matter.

Peace out bros.
