Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017 our class went out to watch the solar eclipse. On that day it was my birthday. I was turning 10 years old. And it was a day to remember. If you’re wondering what a solar eclipse is, let me tell you. A solar eclipse is when the moon covers the sun. So the moon orbits the earth and we, the earth, orbit the sun. So when the moon orbits earth it goes around and around. During a solar eclipse, the moon is directly in front of the sun. Our class watched the solar eclipse and it’s a once in a lifetime event to see. If you watched the solar eclipse you’re very lucky! I know I am, It was the coolest thing I have EVER seen. If you watched it very closely then you can see the solar flares behind the moon. I did, it was so cool! The whole process took about 45 minutes. That’s 45 minutes off of haha. But when it was the darkest it was about 10:15. It was only about 2 minutes when it was the darkest but it was cool.                                                                By:Cadence Nott

BACK TO SCHOOL

Welcome Back to School!

I can't believe the summer is over! I know I say this every year, but time sure goes by fast. One of the wonderful parts of being a teacher is the building excitement of a new school year. I love meeting new students and families, creating an inviting classroom, and planning the first week's activities.

This summer I have been reading and researching how teachers are using the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People  by Stephen Covey to teach 21st century leadership and life skills to students. I have read many success stories from schools around the country and want to incorporate the 7 Habits into our classroom.

What you will see at home:

  • Leadership Notebook - set goals, track progress, celebrate success
  • Assignments and Projects to be completed with family members
  • 7 Habits Language - I encourage families to talk with their child using the 7 Habits language
  • Leadership Days - families will be invited to the classroom to participate in activities led by students
  • Positive Rewards/Praise & Consequences based on the 7 Habits

I am so excited to begin this journey with students and am confident that students will improve their academic achievement, build self-confidence, and gain essential social and life skills.
