Cyber Bullying

Cyber bullying happens everyday. If you don’t know what Cyber bullying is, it’s when someone spreads rumors about you on the internet or just bully you on the internet. For example, say that I’m on my phone and someone says that I  did something bad and they keep doing that or someone can say hurtful things to you or just be a bully! I have been Cyber bullied before by strangers on social media and its not fun. But I usually ignore them or block them and it's that easy!  But, someone can be cyber bullying you and you won't know it. A way to deal with that is to ignore it just like if someone bullied you everyday at school. It’s not always that easy. People can blackmail you into doing something on the internet that you’ll regret. But if you say you won’t do it and they threaten you, they’ll usually be to afraid to do the thing that they’ll say. The best thing to do is tell an adult.  Cyber bullying is no joke! If you are being cyber bullied, then take my advice.

Multiplication Scavenger Hunt

Multiplication Scavenger Hunt

Short Introduction:
On your mark, get set, go! See how fast your child can find multiplication facts and solve them on their recording sheet! This energizing activity can be played indoors or out.

Subject:
Math
Multiplication

What You Need:
Multiplication flashcards
Basket
Blank piece of paper
Pencils
Timer
Clipboards or hardcover books (if playing outside)

What You Do:

1. Choose 20 multiplication flashcards and place them around the house.
2. Decide the difficulty of the scavenger hunt based on how easily your child gets frustrated. For example, if your child really likes a challenge, place cards in drawers and behind baskets if you want to really make her think.
3. Get out a blank piece of paper and a basket.
4. Divide the paper into at least 20 sections. You do not need to number each section.
5. Explain to your child that when you say, “On your mark, get set, go” she will begin searching around the house for the hidden facts.
6. Explain that once she finds a card, she will write the entire fact on her paper, solve it, place it in her basket, and continue to look for more facts!
7. If the cards are double-sided, allow her to choose the problem she wants to solve.
8. Begin the timer and let her loose!
9. If your child needs help, encourage her to draw a picture or get out blocks, bottle caps, or beans she can count.
10. Even if it takes your child 20-30 minutes to solve all the multiplication facts, celebrate her success when she is finished! Record the time it took her to solve the problems on the back of her recording sheet and explain to her that when you play the game again, you’ll compare times.
11. Praise her and explain that the more you practice, the easier it will be to solve the facts.

This game can easily be modified to accommodate more players. If two or more children want to play, be sure to get out enough paper and baskets. To make the game last longer, increase the number of multiplication cards you layout, or to play a short and sweet game, stick with 20.

This game can be played more than one time in a row, especially for eager kids who want to beat their first time. If you decide to play outside, use clipboards or hardcover books to write on.

Scavenger hunts are perfect activities to play on those never-ending days where the kids just can’t figure out what to do. Keep them busy while they get a bit of exercise and master multiplication, too!

Write a comment if you completed this scavenger hunt and you can earn a prize in class!!
