What's Happening

What a fabulous first month of school! I'm so honored to be working with such respectful and hard-working students. Thank you for supporting your child as they learn to become more independent and accountable. I can already see many positive changes in just a few short weeks.

Students are finishing up Unit 1 in math this week and will have their first test. This will include finding volume, writing expressions, multiplication, and division. In reading and writing students are already working in Google Classroom. We have been discussing how to identify the theme of a story and we have also been improving our narrative writing skills. I've really enjoyed reading their stories. Their first Benchmark Test will be the week of October 3. Students are learning about mixtures and solutions in science. We have explored the scientific method with each experiment and they are proving to be amazing scientists. We are also doing a lot of research for Genius Hour. Each student has written an essential question to research and we spend Monday afternoons working on projects. I am excited to see where each student will go and what they learn. Students have a choice of how they want to present their learning. They can make a poster, write a research paper, create a slideshow, make an iMovie, do an oral presentation, or demonstrate how to do something.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 5th Grade Fundraiser!!! The money earned goes directly to Walk Through the Revolution which will happen in the spring. We also use the money raised for the 5th grade party, extra rock climbing expenses, and fifth grade supplies.
